Highlights of the Events

  • As a part of the celebration of Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav, the Department of Life Sciences, Allied Health Sciences & Agriculture Sciences (UIS) got an opportunity to celebrate Valmiki Jayanti and Meera Bai Jayanti on 31st October 2023.
  • Both Valmiki Ji and Meera Bai are revered figures in Hinduism, and their birth anniversaries are celebrated all over India to commemorate their lives and contributions to Indian history and culture.
  • Traditionally, Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon of Ashwin month to pay homage to the sage and his literary and spiritual contributions. He was a great poet and best known for composing the Ramayana, one of the major Sanskrit epics of India.
  • Meera Bai was a sixteenth-century saint and poetess known for her unwavering devotion to Lord Krishna. Her Jayanti is celebrated on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik.
  • Under the aegis of IQAC and IIC, the Department of Life Sciences, Allied Health Sciences & Agriculture Sciences, in collaboration with Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Club, celebrated the Valmiki and Meera Bai Jayanti on 31st October 2023.
  • To remember the deep spiritual devotion of both the saints, various activities such as devotional singing: songs and prayers, Sketching and painting of Valmiki Ji and Meera Bai Period, dance, Poem recitation, and plays reflecting their teachings were organized.
  • Students of various disciplines of science participated in these activities with great enthusiasm.
  • The event commenced with a welcome address by the Head of the department, Dr. Shweta Singh. In her address, she spoke about the inspirational life events of Valmiki ji and Meerabai ji.
  • During the events, a student Aastha from B.Sc. (MLS)/5th acted out the role of Meera bai.
  • Three students Amrit, Khwahish, and Jaswant from the same class performed devotional singing. Harpreet Kaur and Aditi from B.Sc. (Non-Med)/3rd Semester recited a poem on Meera Bai. Khwahish and Jaswant from B.Sc. (MLS)/5th also participated in Sketching/Drawing based on the theme.
  • The winners of activities were awarded with e-certificates.
  • The event was concluded smoothly and provided good teaching as well as a refreshing experience for the students and teachers.
